Owl has a dual personality.
His features are primitive but overall Kupapik has used a minimalist style to fashion this wise bird.
Ningeocheak’s ability to carve complexity into Owl is a reflection of his exceptional talent.
This sculpture can be traditional and contemporary.
This owl is simple with minimal detail.
I love his small yellow piercing eyes.
They are a bit accusatory (What are you looking at?) but simultaneously you can see the wisdom as he takes in every nuance and every detail around him.
His flat beak is an exaggeration of a realistic owl beak. His head is beautifully round.
Then I love the square chunky legs and feet.
This raptor is sturdy. Nothing can knock him off balance.
Finally, the mottled moss green stone permeates the sculpture with softness and a traditional sense of ancient history.
This owl represents a species that has existed for thousands of years.
Kupapik understands the Owl. The piece is an homage to this beloved bird.
